Names of God

El Roi אל רואי

God who sees me

God of sight

God the Seer

In the light of the Bible God’s name El Roi expresses a wealth of comfort.

He - the God who sees everything - knows my past, present and future. Although this name can be found in only one place in the Old Testament, it comforted Hagar, an Egyptian slave, in her distress, encouraged her and gave her new assurance through a great promise.

God - as the Heavenly Father - sees me, helps me in great difficulties and even prepares a way for me that leads to eternal life after this earthly life!

For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. Psalms 139:1-5 (ESV)

O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.

Psalms 139:16 (ESV)

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

John 4:11-14 (ESV)

The woman said to him (Jesus), "Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock." Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."
